Ahmedabad, June 3, 2025 β In a nerve-wracking finale that went down to the very last over, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) etched their name in history, clinching their maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) trophy. They defeated a valiant Punjab Kings (PBKS) by a slender margin of 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, sparking scenes of unbridled joy among their faithful supporters.
The summit clash of IPL 2025 was a rollercoaster of emotions, with fortunes swinging dramatically throughout the contest. Ultimately, RCB held their nerve in crucial moments to finally lay their hands on the coveted silverware.
RCB Post Competitive 190/9
Put into bat first after PBKS won the toss and opted to field, Royal Challengers Bengaluru put up a fighting total of 190/9. Virat Kohli top-scored for his side with a well-compiled 43 off 35 balls. He received good support from Rajat Patidar (26 off 16), Liam Livingstone (25 off 15), Jitesh Sharma (24 off 10), and Mayank Agarwal (24 off 18), whose contributions ensured RCB had a challenging score on the board.
For Punjab Kings, the bowling attack was spearheaded by Arshdeep Singh, who was exceptional with figures of 3/40, and Kyle Jamieson, who also claimed 3/48. Their efforts, along with a wicket each for Yuzvendra Chahal, Azmatullah Omarzai, and Vijaykumar Vyshak, kept RCB from running away with the game.
Shashank Singh’s Valiant Chase Falls Just Short
In response, Punjab Kings showcased immense fighting spirit, taking the chase deep into the final over. Shashank Singh played a blinder of an innings, scoring a breathtaking 61 off just 30 deliveries, an knock that was studded with powerful hits and kept PBKS firmly in the hunt.
Earlier, Priyansh Arya (24) and Prabhsimran Singh provided a platform, and Josh Inglis also chipped in. However, RCB’s bowlers, particularly Krunal Pandya (2/17) and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (2/38), picked up crucial wickets at regular intervals to keep the pressure on. Josh Hazlewood was tasked with defending 28 runs in the final over. Despite Shashank Singh’s heroics in the death, Hazlewood managed to restrict PBKS to 184/7, sealing a historic victory for RCB.
The atmosphere in the stadium was electric as RCB players and fans erupted in celebration, marking an end to their long wait for an IPL championship. While it was heartbreak for Punjab Kings, who fought tooth and nail, the night belonged to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
